Signing Up for Electricity Service With

Tara Energy

How do I sign up for electricity with

Tara Energy

?

If they are a supported provider you can sign up for them through our web or mobile applications. If they aren't supported you will need to go to their website or call.

Are

Tara Energy

's rates the cheapest in Texas?

It depends, sometimes their rates are high and sometimes low. You should always compare their rates against other providers using Nutiliti: Energy Choice.

Why does

Tara Energy

need a credit check?

This check is done to determine whether you can enroll without paying a deposit. The check is a utility payment data-based search that reviews your history of making payments on your utility services (electric, natural gas, water, etc.)

Will I have to pay a deposit to

Tara Energy

to begin service?

A deposit may be required depending on your payment history and your credit score. If so, you'll need to satisfy the deposit requirement before your service can begin. Your deposit amount will be calculated when you submit your enrollment request.

Can I cancel my current electricity contract to switch to

Tara Energy

Yep! If you're locked into a contract with an electricity provider, you can still cancel it anytime you want. Consumer protection laws ensure you have this option. That said you may have to pay a fee for ending the contract early.

Will I have to pay an early termination fee if I move?

Nope! If you're moving during your contract term and can provide proof of relocation (like a lease, mortgage statement, or utility bill for your new place), you won't have to pay an early termination fee.

Can I have service start with

Tara Energy

the same day I request service?

In general, it takes 3 business days to complete a standard order for service. When you transfer your service, you can request service to begin on the same day. This is called a Same Day Turn-On and there is an additional fee involved. If you select Same Day Turn-On service, you will be assessed a one-time fee on your first bill with your provider, as determined by the Transmission & Distribution Utility Provider (also known as the TDSP or utility company) for your area. Typically, if a customer places a Same Day Turn-On Order and pays all the necessary fees (including any required deposit amount), service for the customer will begin within 24 hours. Ultimately, the time frame for a Priority Move-In is determined by the TDSP technician workload. Unfortunately, you cannot request to end service on the same day you request your transfer. It takes 3 days for your provider and the TDSP in your area to process and complete your service termination request.

Why does

Tara Energy

need my Social Security Number (SSN)?

Electricity providers use your social security number as a unique reference to identify you during their risk analysis and determine if you will need to pay a utility deposit.

What is the cost to switch to

Tara Energy

?

They do not charge an enrollment fee. However, your current electricity provider may assess a cancellation fee if you're switching providers within your contract term. Your current provider can confirm what those costs (if any) might be. Also, the utility company (or generation company) for your area may charge a one-time fee for connection or disconnection. This fee will appear on your electricity bill on behalf of the utility company approximately thirty (30) days (or one billing cycle) later.

How long would it take to switch to

Tara Energy

?

Once you sign up with a new provider, you'll have three business days to change your mind, but if you don't, your switch will happen automatically within seven business days. You won't experience any interruption in service, and you'll get your first bill from the new provider during the next billing cycle.

Am I allowed to sign up for

Tara Energy

in Texas?

Yes you have the PowertoChoose in Texas and can sign up for any electricity provider you'd like.

Should I sign up for a fixed-rate plan with

Tara Energy

?

Yes, we always recommend this. When you sign up for a fixed-rate plan, you are locked in a specific rate for the length of the contract term. This rate is based on what your provider thinks the market will behave like over the length of the contract term; and thus, you are protected from price fluctuations you could experience on a variable-rate plan due to unexpected market conditions (whether extreme weather, hurricanes, shortages of supply, etc).

Will my quality of service change if I switch to

Tara Energy

?

The relationship you have with your utility / TDSP will remain the same. The utility company is bound by law to provide equal service to all of its customers regardless of your electricity provider.

Will you let my current provider and utility know that I've switched to

Tara Energy

?

When you make the switch to a new provider, your new provider will take care of contacting your current electricity provider and the utility.  You will receive a notice from your utility confirming your new electricity electricity provider.

Does PowertoChoose apply to

Tara Energy

?

Yes if you are in a deregulated city in Texas then you have the power to choose any provider.

Understanding Billing With

Tara Energy

What is an Energy or Generation Charge from

Tara Energy

?

An energy or generation charge is what they charge you for your electricity usage. This is based on the kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity used in a given billing cycle and the rate for that electricity. They calculate the charge by multiplying the number of kWh consumed during a billing cycle by your rate for energy (in cents per kWh).For example, if you're signed up on a fixed-rate plan at 10.0 cents per kWh and you use 1,000 kWh during a billing cycle, your energy charge would be $100.00: 1,000 kWh x 10.0 cents per kWh = $100.00.Please understand that the number of kWh you use in a billing cycle is not determined by your provider but by the utility company for your area, based upon their reading of your meter.

What is

Tara Energy

's Electricity Facts Label?

The Electricity Facts Label (EFL) provides you with pricing for your energy usage per kilowatt-hour (kWh), contract, charge breakdown between your electricity provider and your local Transmission & Distribution Service Provider (TDSP, also known as the utility company), product description, fee information, and emissions information regarding your electricity service. Your EFL will be provided to you by your electricity provider with your Terms of Service Agreement.

How does Auto Pay work with

Tara Energy

?

The Auto Pay draft occurs on the due date of your bill. Please be advised that Auto Pay is set up to receive payment from the four major credit card providers (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express). Many customers do set up Auto Pay using their bank-issued check/debit card so that their payment is drafted from their checking account, instead of a traditional credit card. Once you are set up Auto Pay, it may take one to two billing cycles for it to begin automatically drafting your card.

Why have I not received my

Tara Energy

bill?

There are a few reasons why you might not have received your bill at this time. The generation of your bill depends upon when your meter is read by the Transmission Distribution Service Provider (TDSP, also known as the utility company) for your area and when that meter reading is delivered to your provider. The TDSP might not have read your meter at this time. The TDSP might not have delivered your meter reading to your provider. Please contact the TDSP to determine the meter read schedule for your service address. Per Texas Public Utilities Commission (PUC) regulation, your electricity provider does have up to 30 days after receiving your meter reading from your TDSP to generate your bill for any given billing cycle. You are enrolled in Paperless Billing , but the e-mail about your bill could have been placed in your spam/junk mail folder on accident. There could be a discrepancy in the e-mail address that they have on file for your account.

How long is a billing cycle with

Tara Energy

?

Your billing cycle begins and ends based upon the meter reading dates determined by the Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP, also known as the utility company) for your area. Please be advised that Direct Energy does not control when the TDSP reads your meter. A typical billing cycle is 28-32 days in length, but there is no specifically set length that a billing cycle will always be.

Will my

Tara Energy

rate increase as a result of the recent spikes in real-time market prices?

Residential fixed-rate plans are not tied to real-time market prices, insulating residential customers from extreme wholesale power price swings. If you're currently on a month-to-month plan you should switch to a fixed-rate plan through Nutiliti if you don't want to have to worry about big price changes.
